UCD, University College Dublin

University College Dublin fosters basic research embedded in strong disciplines and it has designed creative interdisciplinary education programmes that draw on these disciplines to promote new fields of study and initiatives that exploit new knowledge to inform public policy and to stimulate economic development in areas of national and EU priorities. UCD Forestry is the research group participating in Fastforests. The group focuses on developing solutions to problems associated with changes in the economic, environmental and social context in which forestry operates. UCD Forestry comprises five core and one affiliated academic staff, one research manager, three postdoc researchers and 10 PhD students. The group supports the forestry industry and forest policy development of Ireland by conducting excellent research. Our research contributes to an improvement in the sustainability of forestry in Ireland, the quality and security of forest goods and services.
